Each year at RotaryFest, we collect non-perishable food items for the Perth Food Bank. These donations come from you, the community! We’d like to thank you for your generosity, which enabled us to drop off 3 vehicles’ worth of food to the Food Bank after RotaryFest. We couldn’t have done it without you!

We had a great time at this year’s RotaryFest! Special thanks to Eddy and the Stingrays for providing fantastic music again this year. Thanks also to the many volunteers who helped make the event possible.

Thanks to all who helped make it such a huge success. With your help, we collected quite a pile of food for the Food Bank. We were also thrilled to make a $4,000 donation to the Library’s Summer Literacy Program. We’ll keep you posted on amounts etc. soon, but for now, enjoy the photos from the event!

The Perth Rotary Club was pleased to be at this year’s Festival of the Maples. We had our ShelterBox on hand to display and also held a bean bag toss for the kids to learn about Literacy. Each participant received a book. We hope you enjoyed MapleFest also!

The Rotary Club of Perth is once again supporting the Perth Union Library Summer Literacy Program. This year’s contribution of $4000 brings Rotary’s support over the past 15 years to more than $40,000. The literacy program gives kids who have been recommended by their teachers one-on-one tutoring over the summer to improve their reading skills.

Parents of the 125 kids who participated in the program in 2011 saw great improvement in their children’s reading skills, as well as their interest in books and learning. “I think this is an excellent way to give children the confidence to return to school with more knowledge in reading,” one parent said. “I have recommended this program to many friends, and they all have been impressed. Please keep this program running.”

Another said: “This program is one of the best programs out there. The time and attention the child receives is so beneficial.” Holly’s mother noted: “Holly hadn’t started reading chapter books before this session – she does now!”

Events such as the upcoming RotaryFest raise funds for these and other important programs in the Perth community. Learn more about Rotary’s work.

RotaryFest 2012 is coming up Saturday, May 12, at 8 p.m. at the Perth Arena. We are pleased once again to be featuring Eddy and the Stingrays for a night of fun and entertainment. RotaryFest is the Rotary Club of Perth’s major annual fundraising event. In 2011, those attending the dance and auction helped raise more than $11,000 for the Table Food Bank and Rotary’s literacy efforts, including the Perth & District Union Public Library‘s summer literacy program. Tickets are $25, available from any Rotary Club member. Bring a Food Bank donation to the event and get $5 back! Watch for your Food Bank donation bag in the mail.
